The Orange-winged Amazon, Amazona amazonica, is a large and fairly common member of the Amazon genus. It is native to tropical South America, occasionally kept in captivity.
Description[]
The Orange-winged, like most Amazons, has mainly green plumage. The crown and cheeks (ears) are yellow and blue, with orange in the wings and tail. The beak is dark gray or horn-colored. Ceres and facial skin are a grayish hue, and eyes are dark. This bird is medium-large for a parrot, roughly a foot long and weighing in at about 11 ounces.
Behavior and Diet[]
Orange-winged Amazons are loud, often making high-pitched screams. They often roost in palm trees, eating fruit, nuts, seeds and occasionally cacao.
