These large parrots are named for their bright and striking plumage. It is a light to medium blue on the back and upperparts, with rich golden-yellow underparts. They have a white facial patch with thin black markings, as well as a forest-green area toward the top front of the head. Eyes are yellowish, while the powerful beak is a dark gray. They also have a green-black chin.
Behavior, Diet and Captive Life[]
Blue-and-Gold Macaws naturally live in Brazil. They are skilled fliers and mate for life. Though captive-bred specimens may be friendly and gentle, wild individuals are often aggressive.
These birds are foragers, eating nuts, seeds and fruits. Occasionally they will claylick to rid their bodies of toxins.
They are generally common in captivity. Captive birds are known for their colors, personalities and talking. However, like most other large parrots, they are hard to care for due to the fact that they bite hard, scream loud, and need constant stimulation.
