The Umbrella CockatooCacatua alba, also called the White Cockatoo, is a medium-sized member of the Cockatoo family.

The Umbrella Cockatoo is approximately 18 inches long, weighing around 14 ounces. Their plumage is mainly white, with tints of lemon on the undersides of the wings and tail. The feathers produce a fine powder, informally called "feather dust" or "bird dandruff", which transfers easily to clothing. The beak and feet are dark gray, with iris color ranging from reddish-brown to black.

The Umbrella Cockatoo lives in mangrove, primary, secondary, and logged low-elevation forests on numerous islands of North Maluku, Indonesia.

Behavior and DietEdit

Cacatua alba is noted for its unusual cuddling behavior and tendancy to snuggle up to people. This species, similar to other medium-to-large parrots, bonds strongly to its caretakers in captivity.

The White Cockatoo finds many sources of substainence in the Indonesian  jungle, eating various fruits, nuts, seeds, berries, and roots. When nesting, they also consume insects.
